TAPE

TAPE is a homage to the analog era of the early 1980s. A stylized audio cassette in subdued shades of blue, minimalist and iconic. The image evokes memories of mixtapes, best of compilations, tangled tape, the Walkman, and recording songs from the radio. In its reduced form, retro meets clarity. A visual echo of the past, reinterpreted in a square format. TAPE is part of the art series Blue in a Square, which includes 250+ artworks.

Tape jam isn’t a vegan delicacy.

For a while, the cassette, the tape, was the musical center of gravity for my generation. A recording off the radio was pure gold, provided the DJ didn’t cut it short or a traffic update didn’t crash the song. You held your breath with every take, hoping for a spotless capture.

But tapes had their quirks. How often did the music stop abruptly with a sudden warbling sound? Now every millisecond counted: had the tape snapped, or could you fix the “spaghetti” by rewinding it with a pencil? It got downright reckless in the car: when a tape began to wobble, so did your attention to the road. And yet we cherished those cassettes.
