A landscape painter. Mondrian’s development is impressive, culminating in iconic works that continue to have an impact to this day – in fashion, music, design and, of course, in art itself. His consistency is overwhelming. It doesn’t get any clearer than this. To this day, the mere sight of his work fills me with deep awe. This minimalism, pushed right to the pain barrier. Asking the most important of all questions: “What is not needed?”
Not trying to impress with more, with plenty, with excess. Mondrian awakened a longing in me: to achieve the perfect espresso. The best Spaghetti aglio e olio. The ideal white or black T-shirt. To experience something in the purest sense of what it is meant to be. To omit everything that does not serve the essence. This kind of simple perfection makes me rave. Whether in music, architecture, design, or anywhere else: when things are reduced to one core – to their meaning – I am hopelessly devoted to them.
