PONG

PONG is a minimalist homage to one of the earliest video games in history. A stylized form of tennis that could be played on a TV screen. Two paddles, one pixel, that’s all it takes to embark on a journey into the past. The abstract composition in bold blue and white reduces the digital to its purest essence and turns it into a timeless art object. PONG symbolizes the playful origins of digital culture. It is part of the art series Blue in a Square, featuring 250+ artworks.

Ping Pong Ping Pong Ping Pong…

With TV tennis “Pong” an entirely new era began: the leap from home TV games to computer games, much like the jump from teletext to the internet. From today’s perspective it seems unimaginable that, despite the modest performance, we stuck with it so passionately. But the opposite is true: epic matches were played, historic victories were celebrated, hours flew by, and new champions were born. That laid the foundation for a development that now surpasses anything we could have imagined back then and we’ll probably say the same again every ten years.

The artwork “Pong” also shows how small, simple, and minimal the first step of a great journey can be. It’s available exclusively through this Art Store, directly from the artist, no gallery. Just send an email or use the online form; we’ll reply with a comprehensive, detailed, no-obligation quote.
