Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. It’s about more than music. Like Woodstock, this Pink Floyd album stands for an era; it’s a synonym that mirrors a time.
If you had to distill the ’70s into a limited set of objects, this cover would make the cut. Of course, it’s also a musical outlier, one of the greatest concept albums. Of course, of course, of course. But none of that fully explains its enduring impact on my generation. What that prism triggers in us runs deeper: it reflects the soul, the sound, the rhythm, the feeling of a generation. You don’t have to like Pink Floyd, but anyone who respects music respects this album, without hesitation. Because it’s more.
