ARRANGEMENT
“ARRANGEMENT” presents hundreds of identical blue circles in a strict, grid-like formation—a visual manifesto of order, repetition, and control. The work plays with the tension between uniformity and individuality: each point the same, yet unique in its interaction with the whole. A meditative reflection on systems, discipline, and the quiet strength of structure within a meticulously composed square. “ARRANGEMENT” is an artwork from the “Blue in a Square” art series with over 300 works. How sameness soothes the soul.
When everything is the same, it has a positive effect on our state of mind. Symmetry and harmony are for the eyes what melody and chords are for the ears. In nature, this usually doesn’t occur in such a way. Nature is chaos for our senses. Trees don’t stand harmoniously in the forest. Grass doesn’t grow symmetrically. That’s why this fascination exists. When we arrange things perfectly, bring them into a mathematically precise relationship. That’s why I can understand people who constantly have to place and adjust things into such a perfect balance. Until it becomes a kind of psychosis.
Very early on, these arrangements fascinated me and drew me under their spell. That’s why they are part of my positive memory culture. That’s why the artwork “Anordnung” exists. When, in a world of coincidence and chaos, something is exact, it stands out in a positive way. Because it has a calming effect. But the effort required to create and maintain such order in one’s surroundings is disproportionate. That’s where such an artwork is a wonderful solution.
